Today, we had the opportunity to meet new friends as we traveled from Westwood to Pasadena. When we arrived at The Villas by Astoria Park, we were greeted by Trisha who showed us around the center and introduced us to all of the residents.
During our presentation on the History of Happiness, we compared different theories and asked for the group's input on what they agreed or disagreed with. The discussion was very interactive and we enjoyed the back-and-forth dialogue with our new friends. We also delved into the neuroscience of happiness and discussed which parts of the brain are active when a person is happy. Along with the presentation, we did a few activities such as a laughing game, a mindfulness game, and posed questions that sparked conversation. Everyone participated and had a great time.
As we were getting ready to leave, we had the chance to speak with a woman named Catherine who was an UCLA alumni. She shared her passion for prison reform and her occupation in public policy with us. She was also very supportive and excited for our future endeavors as the next generation. She left us with encouraging words and big smiles on our faces.
Overall, we had a great experience at this new location and reflected on how much we enjoyed the interactive nature of the group and how much we learned. We are looking forward to coming back in future visits.
