Our visit today was definitely an exciting one — this was the first time we brought a VR headset to add a new interactive element to our presentations. The theme for today was Patagonia, a land famous for its stunning sights and rugged landscape. The residents were delighted by the photos and information we shared about this remote land, and many expressed interest in the unique geology and animal/plant life of Patagonia.
After our presentation, we moved into the VR portion, where we hoped to give residents an immersive experience enjoying the Patagonian landscape with more than just pictures. We had our members set up the headset beforehand for the residents, and at first they were somewhat hesitant to try. However, the first resident to try the headset seemed to be fascinated by the sights she saw, which made other residents a bit more enthusiastic as well. We had a few more residents volunteer to try and explore Patagonia for themselves with the headset, and many of them were delighted by the concept of being able to travel without leaving their chairs. Overall, this visit was an incredibly informing one, as we learned a lot about how we should embed VR into our presentations and saw how the residents truly seemed to enjoy this travel-themed presentation. We hope to be back soon with a new VR presentation, hopefully to take the residents exploring somewhere new!
